Services and Fees for the Animal Shelter

      We provide these services for domestic animals at the Rita B. Huff Humane Society to benefit the health and well-being of the people from our community and of the surrounding areas...

      • Education on humane treatment of animals and responsible pet care.
      • Visitation of local nursing homes.
      • Volunteer program.
      • Rabies observation facility.
      • Provide shelter for stray animals which means:
        • fewer animals on the streets
        • in the trash
        • or bothering people.
      • Financial assistance for neutering pets.
      • Lost and found.
      • Offer companion animals for adoption.
      • Investigate animal abuse complaints.
      • All of our services are available for people in Walker, Madison,
        San Jacinto, Grimes, Polk, Trinity and other surrounding counties.

      List of Current Fees and Charges:

      1)  Adoptions:

      • $85.00 if it stays to be spayed/neutered.
      • $135.00 if it has to come back, then owner will get $50.00 back.
      • Includes: heartworm or feline leukemia test, first shot, first wormer, spay/neuter, rabies vaccination.

      2)  Impoundments:     

      • $20.00 first offense, then $30.00, $40.00 and so on.
      • $10.00 board per day.
      • $10.00 rabies vaccination.

      3)  Drop-Off Fees:      

      • $10.00 per adult dog or cat.
      • $5.00 per puppy or kitten.
      • For litters: the first at above fee and $2.00 per littermate.
      • For Walker, Trinity and Madison Counties there are suggested drop-off donations for bringing in strays.


      4)  Fees for Outside Walker, Trinity, and Madison Counties:

      • Fees for Stray Animals:
        • $30.00 per adult dog or cat.
        • $10.00 per puppy or kitten.
        • For litters: the first at above rate and $5.00 per littermate
      • Owner Turned-In Animals: $30.00 fee, no matter where the animal is from.

      5)  Microchipping:     

      • Microchip implanted in each dog or cat with adoption.
      • $10.00 per dog or cat for SNAP participants.
      • $10.00 per dog or cat for people on government assistance, but not a SNAP participant.
      • Local veterinarians also implant microchips for a small fee.
