We
provide these services for domestic animals at the Rita B. Huff Humane
Society to benefit the health and well-being of the people from our community and select neighboring counties...
- Education on humane treatment of animals and responsible pet care.
- Visitation of local nursing homes.
- Volunteer program.
- Rabies observation facility.
- Provide shelter for stray animals which means:
- fewer animals on the streets
- in the trash
- or bothering people.
- Financial assistance for neutering pets.
- Lost and found.
- Offer companion animals for adoption.
- Investigate animal abuse complaints.
- All of our services are available for people in Walker and select neighboring counties (Trinity and Madison).
List of Current Fees and Charges:
1) Adoptions:
- $85.00 charge if the dog or cat stays to be spayed/neutered.
- $135.00 charge if the dog or cat has to come back, then owner will get $50.00 back.
- Includes: heartworm or feline leukemia test, first shot, first wormer, spay/neuter, rabies vaccination and microchip.
2) Impoundment:
- For City of Huntsville, City of Madisonville, City of Trinity and Trinity County the impoundment fee is $35.00 first offense, then $45.00 second offense, $55.00 and so on.
- For Walker County and Madison County there is no impoundment fee, but the board fee is $20 per night.
- $10.00 board fee per day for all other communities.
- $10.00 fee for the rabies vaccination.
3) Drop-Off (Trinity and Madison Counties):
- $20.00 drop-off fee per stray adult dog or cat, and $30 owner surrender (except for Walker County).
- For litters with mothers: $20.00 drop-off fee for the mother, $5.00 for the first littermate, and $2.00 for all other littermates.
- For litters without mothers: $10.00 for the first littermate, and $5.00 for all other littermates.
- For Walker County there are suggested drop-off donations.
- We no longer accept animals from outside Walker, Trinity, and Madison Counties.
5) Microchipping:
- A microchip is implanted in each dog or cat with adoption.
- $15.00 charge per dog or cat for SNAP participants.
- $30.00 charge per dog or cat for people on government assistance, but not a SNAP participant.
